Speech unclear to unfamiliar listeners

Articulation Disorder

Articulation is the way of pronunciation. A child develops the articulation of all words gradually. Some easily articulate the words correctly shortly but some may take time to pronounce all the letters and words. It depends on each child.

But it becomes a problem when they try to communicate with the outsiders. The ones who they interact with everyday, for example: the parents, may relate the word easily but for outsiders, they might be confused. This situation is called articulation disorder.

Moments Where Parents Pause

  • When the child pronounces the word upside down
  • When the child speaks differently compared to the children of the same age
  • When the outsiders getting confused all while speaking with the child
  • When the teachers, friends, or other relatives, try to find the meaning of what the child actually says about.

These are some situations where parents did not understand what the child is dealing with and how to support them.

How Parents can Support their Child from Home

  • Children learn through listening, encourage them to listen to the sounds and repeat after them.
  • Correct them softly if they are articulating the mistake not harshly.
  • Read them rhymes, storybooks and words.
  • Engage them in speech activities like action songs and rhymes.
